For much of my life I was in business, the real estate business, but I had to remove myself from the industry because it became too much of a battle fighting falsehood and lies, it got the best of me and I became angry, saddened and I felt let down believing that this is how all people were and how the world worked.
I understand we need to make money, especially now we are desperate to find work and make a life for ourselves. It just seems that these hard sale tactics and desperation is what has given the entire business world a bad name. Where is the integrity?. Of course we are out for our own interest to take care of ourselves and our families. But I feel that the scales have become completely off balance because we have forgotten to think about our clients and their needs. I could not believe it, I went to a restaurant the other night and the waiter was totally dominating the situation, the guest was literally tip towing around him, being afraid she would make him mad. What is wrong with this picture? Have we lost the ability to be humble and grateful for our jobs, our clients, our guests, and the people who are supporting us? The “it’s all about me” mentality has truly grown out of control.
I went to a mixer the other night with a bunch of savvy business people. I was bombarded and pushed over by the energy of these people. Right to the point, who are you? What do you do? Why do you do it? And mostly can you benefit me and can I make money from you? I was not a person, I was bait, shark bait.
There was no human heart to heart understanding or contact. Everything was the bottom line, and I understand that because I have been that. But I think it is time to do business a different way. In a way that respects each other, does not push, and does not force. Doing business where “free will” is the highest moral code and standard. The masks we wear! I see it, and it is the reason why our trust for each other has diminished. Can we be honest about what we need and why we are doing what we are doing? People are smarter than we think and they can see past these masks especially now.
My wish is for us to do business in a friendly, respectful, honest and moral way. Do you think this is possible?
